It’s Chili Cook-Off Time!

It’s time!  Time for some CHILI!

First Baptist Church is excited to again host our annual Chili Cook-Off!  This fun, family-friendly event will see a wide range of chilis, from traditional no-beans and with beans, white, red, brown, and we have even had green before!  Heat ranges will be from none to extreme (will be clearly labeled).

And YOU are the judge!  Everyone who samples chili gets to vote for their favorite!

This event is open to the public – but if you plan to enter your chili, please have it here by 5:45PM to give time to get registered and set up for tasting!

This is a FREE event – but we will also have a dessert auction after the chili tasting is done!  So if you want to bring your favorite baked item or dessert for the auction, then bring that too! But most importantly – come have fun and enjoy the fellowship while trying a variety of chilis.

FAITH over FEAR Youth & Student EVENT!

First Baptist Church is excited to announce our first one-day youth rally:

Featuring Worship led by our friends of Trinitas (Shreveport, LA and Tyler, TX), and teaching by Micah Powell.

FEAR...

Fear can do a lot more than cause us to shake or want to hide.  For some, it causes us to become angry, fearful- and it can destroy families, friendships - and chase us from the very things in life that matter.  F.U.D. - Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt...  After the last year and a half, we all should be very familiar with these terms.  Fear overtook many, changed lives - Uncertainty cause paralysis and government officials to make decisions that will long be questioned, and of course Doubt - or even pessimism that comes naturally with fear and uncertainty - and all three of these things are tools that Satan uses to try to stop, squash, and destroy lives that could otherwise be joy-filled testimonies.

TRINITASTrinitas is a trio consisting of Chanin & Mandy Barker (Shreveport, LA), plus Keith Copley (Tyler, TX), who bring an energy and excitement fueled by a genuine passion for Christ and the Saving Grace poured out through the Gospel.  The music styles in the library of Trinitas is across the spectrum - from Southern Gospel to Contemporary Christian and Praise - We are glad to have Trinitas as a part of this important event!

Micah Powell, and his wife of 12 years Rachel, is currently a student at Midwestern Baptist

Micah and Family

Theological Seminary in Kansas City, and has served as a worship pastor, youth pastor, family pastor, and frequent camp + youth speaking engagements.  Micah is an engaging speaker, compassionate soul, and absolutely a spaz for the redeeming work of Jesus Christ - with a passion and energy for equipping folks for life and ministrythrough discipleship.  His background speaks very clearly and loudly to the subject of battling fear, uncertainty, and doubt, and there is absolutely no chance that you listen to Micah without coming away strengthened and very likely changed.

WHO CAN COME?

This event is open to all, though primarily geared towards Junior High- College aged students.  We will have opportunity for questions, prayer, and of course - worship!  We do ask that all participants PRE-REGISTER so we can plan food for the LUNCH that we will provide.  Registration/tickets are $1 (which simply covers the cost of registration) and guarantees you a spot.  Tickets go on sale Friday, June 11 at Noon.

Resurrection Sunday (Easter) Is Coming!

There are few realities more important. to the Christian faith than that of the Resurrection!  Paul wrote to the church at Corinth:

For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised;and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. (1 Corinthians 15:16-17)

Some argue that Scripture never commands Christians to celebrate “Easter”, yet can one deny that Jesus’ own followers rejoiced and celebrated His rising from the grave? It is the resurrection that made all the difference! And just as Paul penned in the verses above, without the resurrection, we are the most pitiful of people!

Join us Sunday, April 4 for our Easter Sunrise Service at 7AM, or for our Easter

choir production of One Day (arr. Russell Maulden) at 11:00AM.

COVID-19 – March 13, 2021

Most who are familiar with FBC know that we never “shut the doors”, but did encourage many for a short time to shift to watching the service online. Over the course of several months, attendance has, thankfully, begun to return to more normal levels. Further, we have been blessed with quite a few visitors and even a handful of new members! The LORD has blessed us during this time – a time that for most has been trying.

Yet one thing has remained true: God is gracious and always good! As you return to active fellowship, we do ask that you remain vigilant and reasoned in your actions. This includes continuing to respect the distancing desires of those who are particularly susceptible to illness, effective hand washing and use of sanitizer. If you feel more comfortable continuing to wear a face covering, you are more than welcome to do that. And of course, if you are experiencing the symptoms of COVID-19 (listed below), or have had a recent confirmed exposure, please utilize good judgment in thinking of others.

If you are experiencing:

  • Nasal Congestion
  • Sore Throat
  • Unusual Fatigue
  • Body Aches
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever (Greater than 100.4)
  • COUGH
  • Shortness of Breath

Please consider others and join us online and see your doctor or health care provider as soon as possible.

November 13, 2020 COVID UPDATE

As many may know, we had a church member test positive this week. While there is no indication or suggestion that it was transmitted at church (the member was not at church the Sunday prior to diagnosis), and the state contact tracer said it was highly unlikely this member either picked it up, or spread it at church, we began revisiting our current policies and procedures.  With a second positive test this week in another member, some decisions have been made in regards to safety, and in light of the governor’s updated guidelines:

  • We again request that all who enter the building wear a mask. This is most important when in areas where distancing is COVID-19not practical. We still have disposable masks, individually packaged, available at each entryway.
  • A reminder – if you do not feel physically well, are have a fever (temp scanners are available at entryways), or have reason to believe you have been directly exposed to COVID (or the flu that has begun circulating in some areas), please remain at home and join us online.
  • For the time being, to try to provide space to distance with our fixed pews, every-other row has been designated as an empty pew. Because our pastor feels strongly about not turning anyone away, depriving them of the opportunity to worship together, Hayden Hall will be set up to participate via the livestream. This might be particularly attractive for those who may have internet/streaming issues at home.
  • The Choir will not sit on the platform for worship service or for rehearsals.
  • SUNDAY SCHOOL/BIBLE FELLOWSHIP CLASSES: Will NOT meet in-person. Bro. Earnest will continue to record the lesson and it will be available via live-stream (Facebook and Youtube), and will be shown in the sanctuary beginning at 10AM.
  • WEDNESDAY IGNITE! – will continue, but we have suspended food service and will be enforcing masks in the classrooms and other areas where safe spacing cannot be maintained.

Much of what we are trying to do is nothing new, and including the weekly sanitizing of the entire building (thank you Bro. Roger Meredith). While we are not to live in fear, we still should exercise good discernment and use prudence in what we are doing. Please pray for those who have been diagnosed, pray for our pastor, and for each other. If anyone knows of a need for someone in quarantine, please let us know.

*PLEASE REMEMBER THAT PROPER HAND WASHING/SANITIZING IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE MEANS OF PREVENTING THE SPREAD OF CONTAGIOUS DISEASE INCLUDING COVID-19.
